When the device connected is a card reader, then the software is able to read the remaining credits on the IC card, and it can also bypass the card reader and directly command the attached meter to have it connect or disconnect the power.

The EnergyLink specializes in automated meter reading and hence it is important that it maintains constant communication with the devices; if this link is broken then the data between the software and devices is no longer in sync, then billing may become incorrect. Thus, if the software cannot connect after several retries then it will pop up an alert screen to notify the operator

The EnergyLink system can connect using various types of communication converters, but the EnergyLink300 can only make use of the CC150 and the WSC201.
